Rest & Renewal at China Fleet

Royal Navy

Lieutenant Commander Trevor Brookes

Resident Naval Officer – Falmouth Royal Navy HQ Wales, Western England and Channel Islands

“In my role as the Resident Naval Officer- Falmouth, I have a task to support all Royal Navy (RN) and Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) ships that call into Falmouth for scheduled maintenance and repair packages.  There are several vessels across the fleet that have a mandated contract to do so, with some packages lasting several months. During that time I continually promote the superb facilities at the China Fleet Country Club (CFCC) as an excellent place for relaxation and enjoyment when crew members have downtime or leave periods, so that they can book-in as individuals or with family members. The CFCC facility is within easy daily travelling and the discounted rates offered to serving RN and RFA personnel are most attractive. The on-site self-catering accommodation supports longer over-night stays and is of a very high standard. The CFCC also has a formal affiliation with HMS Tamar which is currently on long-term deployment to the far east. When the ship’s company are on ‘watch-leave’ back in the UK,  the CFCC offers competitive options for the crew and their families to stay there, especially if they are travelling down to Cornwall for official engagement duties related to the ship’s formal affiliation to Cornwall.  I am that impressed with what the CFCC has to offer, that I frequently stay there for mini-breaks with my own young family, and we utilise the great leisure facilities and its prime location as a springboard for visiting the nearby city of Plymouth and all it’s attractions. I can give personal testimony from my own many experiences, that the CFCC is a peaceful sanctuary that offers so much for the family, and I sincerely endorse all that it has to offer”
